How to buy a plant correctly

How to buy a plant correctly

So the long-awaited moment of buying a houseplant has come. Where can you do this? There are many options, each of which is worth considering. First of all, you need to come to a specialized flower shop. There they will tell everything in detail and demonstrate: what's what. The main thing is not to forget that the seller sets a goal - to sell the product, and everything else is unimportant. This rule works always and everywhere, wherever a person makes a purchase.

Of the entire assortment of flowers in stores, about 90 percent are "Dutch", which, of course, is not very good, but, alas, there is no escape from this. In no case can it be argued that such plants are bad or that they are fake. Each "Dutchman" is quite normal and meets his characteristics, besides, he looks great. Unfortunately, this is precisely the problem. Everyone knows that mass production cannot focus on every detail, in this case the plant. In other words, everything that is in flower shops, with few exceptions, grows in completely neutral and uniform soil. Anyone can independently conduct an analysis of such soil, the main thing is that there is enough knowledge to deal with the matter to the end. Curious gardeners claim that there is a coconut-peat conglomerate there, but what else is in this land is a mystery.

Thus, it turns out that the life and flowering of each plant is of artificial origin - the flower lives thanks to various fertilizers and stimulants that allow them to hold out until the moment of sale or even a little longer. Of course, acquiring a disposable plant, what is there is enough - it has grown up, bloomed several times, pleased the eye, you can change it for something else. But we are interested in purchasing for a long time, so we need to buy the plant correctly. Having chosen the plant you like, and if the price suits you, you can safely buy it. Over time, this plant can be transplanted.

If the plant has not been chosen, you need to go to the market. But be careful. The market is a place where you can buy both a true masterpiece from the world of plants, and a specimen that has long been tired of life, which was brought to life only for the sake of sale. Considering that you are new to floriculture, you should not rush to buy from the market. Only if you are confident in the seller and his reputation.

We should not forget about the greenhouse. Although here, too, they do not do without tricks. For example, there are stimulants, there are many of them, but at least the substrate is clear there, and the consultation of a professional is worth a lot. These are not store stories.

Plants and flowers are also often bought over the Internet. There, and the choice is huge, and the method of buying has long been popular and very practical. The Internet makes it possible to buy anytime, anywhere. But here it is better to play it safe a little and buy very carefully - best of all from a professional or, at least, an experienced florist.

Wherever a plant is purchased, it must be carefully checked and inspected. You don't need to be an experienced grower to understand the condition of your plant. First of all, pay attention to the leaves - they should not have rot, gray or brown spots, the leaves should be elastic, insects should not run along them.

Ideally, you need to purchase a young plant. If your purchase is from the blooming type, take the flower at the bud stage, not in blooming form. And one more important nuance. When buying a plant in winter and getting home by public transport, a newspaper will be a good packaging for a plant, but, of course, it is better to buy a plant in a warm season, for example, in spring.

When you become the proud owner of a plant, you will need to prepare the purchased plant for its permanent place. To do this, temporarily place the flower in a shaded place for faster adaptation. When the plant gets used to your home, feel free to transfer it to a pre-prepared place, and take care of it, following the rules of care.

Notes and Recommendations

So we have decided which houseplant we will buy. And where do we do it? There are several options, and they all deserve attention. I already wrote about buying violets in a note How to buy a violet correctly, this rule is, in principle, applicable to any indoor plant (and garden flowers are bought in the same way), but of course, there are nuances. First, let's go to the store. Of course, if this is a large specialized flower shop, then there are no questions, they will show and tell you (or maybe not). But in any case, it should be remembered that it is important for the seller to sell, and then, at least not to grow, in the literal sense. Moreover, this rule applies wherever we buy it. So, in the store, the assortment of 90 percent consists of "Dutch", and this, as you know, is not good. No, this does not mean that the plants are bad or, what good, not real. They are normal and quite live up to their name, and they look beautiful. But it is here that there is a pitfall. In mass production, as you know, every detail, and in our case, the plant, you will not pay much attention, then it is massive. So it turns out that all the plants that you see in the store (with a few exceptions) sit in the same type, absolutely neutral soil. By the way, I tried to somehow conduct an independent analysis of it, but either the knowledge was not enough, or for another reason, I did not fully figure out what was there. I can only guess that this is a coconut-peat conglomerate. But whatever it is, it is completely neutral and not nutritious. And of course, the life and flowering of this plant is supported artificially, with various stimulants and fertilizers, which allow them to hold out until they are sold and even longer. Of course, if you buy a plant at a time, then this is quite enough - it has grown, bloomed and you can buy a new one. But in our case, we buy for a long time, and we need to buy correctly. If you liked the plant and the price does not scare you (and it is, of course, higher than on the market or in the greenhouse), then buy. Then transplant. Read how to do this here.

And if not, we go further into the greenhouse. In the greenhouse, too, of course, they are cunning. And there are also a lot of stimulants, but the substrate there is, in any case, understandable, and you will receive more professional advice than in the store, so to speak, from the manufacturer. Although, of course, also extras.

Further our road is to the market. And here, we must keep our ears open! On the market, you can with equal success buy both a real masterpiece of the plant world and a tortured specimen brought to consciousness only for sale. Considering that you are still a beginner florist, I do not recommend buying on the market yet. Unless, of course, you are not sure about the seller. But what can I say, the market is the same for all goods and the rules for buying on it are also.

You can also buy it online. The choice is also quite rich. and this way of shopping is becoming more and more popular. On the internet, you can buy anything and everywhere. And fertilizers in Moscow, and furniture in Tashkent, and Kiev bags, and flowers as well. You just have to be careful and buy, preferably from a collector.

And of course, wherever you buy a plant, you need to carefully examine it. You don't have to be a great grower to determine if a plant is a conditioned plant or not. It is necessary to look at the leaves, whether there is rot, brown or gray spots, whether the leaves are elastic, whether some insects are running along it. And of course it is better to buy a young plant, and if it is from the flowering group, then it is better not to take the already blooming one, but at the bud stage. That's probably all. Yes! Another. If you buy it in winter and get there by public transport, then the best packaging for a plant is a newspaper. But of course it is better to buy when it gets warmer, in the spring for example.

Now you are the lucky owner of the plant! Congratulations! But before you put it in its permanent place, it needs to be prepared for it. In the meantime, put it in a dimly lit place and let it stand a little, get used to it. And how to prepare it for a permanent place will be the next article.

You can buy flowers in Almaty and place an order remotely without leaving your home!

The Sims 3 Gardening Guide

Say "no" to unnaturally red and large apples, grapes of dubious quality and other vegetables and fruits with a high nitrate content. We will grow organic products ourselves! And how to make your harvest rich, read on.

The first thing you'll need for your vegetable garden is the fertile land for which Sunset Valley and Riverside are famous. Choose a piece of land of the size you need and. head to the Znayka bookstore where you can buy gardening books:

- "Gardening Volume 1: Working with a Watering Can" will tell you how to plant seeds, weed your garden and fertilize your plants.
- "Gardening Vol. 2: Odorless Fertilizers" describes the harvest.
- "Gardening Volume 3: Money in the Trees" will teach you how to plant rare seeds and help you grow a wonderful plant.

As a budding gardener, you need to know that seeds can be disgusting, nasty, nasty, bad, ordinary, good, very good, excellent, high, great and excellent quality. Actually, the quality of the entire crop will depend on the quality of the planted seed. And if you want to get excellent fruits, then you need to plant seeds of at least excellent quality.

The author of books on gardening divides all plants into four large groups: common, rare, unusual and special.

Each plant has several stages of development:

- seedling - this is the initial stage when the seed was just lowered into the ground
- sprout - the stage when the first rudiments of a bush or tree break through
- growing - the period of time when the plant takes from the soil all the vitamins and minerals it needs
- adult - the stage when the plant is fully formed
- bears fruit - the first fruits appear on the plant.

By the way, the path from the seedling to the stage of fruiting takes from 8 to 9 days.

Growing the same garlic, apple or grape is quite simple, and there are no problems with this, and special plants require a special (sorry for the tautology) approach.

Fruit of Life (Skill Level 7)... Its seeds can be found near the graveyard, as well as in the Burning Sands Tomb. Each fruit of life eaten rejuvenates your Sim by one day, but the character cannot move from one age category to another.

Death Flower (Skill Level 7)... Its seeds (as in the case of the Fruit of Life) can be found in the cemetery. You can pick the flowers themselves, or their seeds and plant them. The peculiarity of this plant is that it brings only one flower at a time, after which the bush itself dries up (the plant can only be brought back to life once if the sim has the "gardener" trait). The flower helps to reflect death (hence the name): she takes it as a "ransom" for life, but in the case of death from old age, this does not help.

Money tree (skill level 7)... The seeds can be found near the Science Institute. The fruits of the money tree resemble wallets. The main feature of this plant is that it does not dry out. By the way, do not forget to inspect the grass around the tree, because sometimes its "fruits" can be found on earth.

Plants available after completing objectives

Cheese and Egg Plants (Skill Level 8)... Here, everything is somewhat more complicated. The fact is that in order to obtain seeds, you need to fulfill the order of the restaurant: to grow and deliver 20 excellent fruits. After completing this task, you will be able to plant cheese and egg plants.

Burger and Steak Plant (Skill Level 9)... Upon reaching the required skill level, you will receive a task from the restaurant: bring 10 excellent cheeses. In exchange for them, you can plant cutlets and steaks. The burgernik will "bear fruit" with cutlets, and the steak plant - with steaks.

Miracle Plant (Skill Level 10)... When you complete the restaurant quest (bring 10 Great Chops), you will receive some Wonder Plant Seeds. By the way, pay attention to the task itself: the title will indicate that you need to bring 10 great chops, and in the description - 10 great chops. And to complete the task you need excellent quality chops. Initially, the miracle plant needs to be fertilized in order to increase the quality of the "fruits" brought. Its peculiarity is that it can bear fruit with what you fertilize it with.

But besides the fruits described above, your Sims can grow exotic ones as well.

Almost all of the plants that Sims grow on their lot can be eaten raw (except for a few) or as part of a meal.

To improve your skill and get the most benefit, you can try all of the skill tasks:
- Great gardener - grow all the plants available in the game to control the growth of weeds.
- Master Botanist - Grow 75 excellent fruits so that plants never suffer from poor maintenance.
- Skillful gardener - to grow only 650 fruits in order to always get a good harvest, less often watering and fertilizing the plants.

Well, as you can see, everything turned out to be not so difficult. The main thing in gardening is the desire and the availability of free time. Happy harvest!

Did you know that:

- Sims with the Grower trait can talk to plants and revive dead crops
- plants of rare varieties especially need fertilization
- sprinkler (from shopping mode) will make life much easier for your characters
- if you fertilize the plant with the fruit of life, then it will grow faster, and the death fish, on the contrary, will destroy the plant
- your Sims can harvest in other people's gardens
- in the supermarket you can sell the grown goods for about 10% more expensive than through the inventory
- if a sim eats garlic raw, then others will complain about the terrible smell from his mouth
- Sim can improve their gardening skills by attending courses at the Science Institute or by watching "In the Garden, in the Garden" on TV
- crystal plants from the future can be charged with different emotions, and then collect these moods from crystals or give them to other characters, achieving interesting emotional effects

You can discuss the skill of gardening in the topic of the same name on our forum - Gardening in The Sims 3

How to sow seeds correctly

Small seeds (0.5 mm) make it difficult to distribute the material evenly. Therefore, granulated seeds are more convenient: you can take tweezers and lay them out in even rows. Each of the sprouts will receive the same conditions, which will also simplify further diving. It should be borne in mind that ampel-shaped petunias require more time for germination than bush ones. Blue flowers are the earliest to germinate, while reds and purples take the longest. You can find recommendations for planting a particular variety on the packaging. If the seeds are placer, there are several techniques for growing petunia seedlings.

The seeds are mixed with the sand

To distribute the seeds evenly on the surface of the soil, you can mix them with sand or soil. The seeding will look like this:

  1. fill the container with prepared soil and pour it well with water
  2. combine the sand and seeds in a small saucer, mix thoroughly
  3. pour the mixture evenly onto the surface of the wet soil
  4. once again moisten the sowing with a spray gun and sprinkle with a thin layer of soil 1.5-2 mm
Petunia seeds are mixed with sand and evenly distributed over the soil surface

Using snow

When planting petunia seeds, snow can help.

  1. on the soil prepared in the container with a spoon, lay the snow with a layer of 1-1.5 mm
  2. pour the seeds onto the snow. They will be clearly visible on a white canvas and can be evenly distributed using a toothpick.
  3. when the snow begins to melt, it will pull the seeds to the required depth.

Watering or sprinkling with earth with this method is not needed.

Using a toothpick

This method will be convenient when planting in separate containers.

  1. Pour the seeds on paper so that you can see them well
  2. moisten the end of one toothpick, pick up the seed
  3. using a second (dry) toothpick, shake off the seed onto the prepared soil, evenly distributing them in the container.

Using peat tablets

This method will reduce seedling loss and save time and effort. For petunias, medium-sized tablets with a diameter of 4 cm are well suited.

  1. 20 minutes before, soak the tablets in water until they swell completely, periodically adding water
  2. with a moistened toothpick, spread the seeds on different sides of the tablet at the rate of 2 seeds per piece (if the tablet diameter is 4cm)
  3. spray the surface of the tablets with a biologically active growth stimulant
  4. cover the container with a film so that it does not touch the tablets.
For planting in peat tablets, it is better to use pelleted (granulated) petunia seeds

While on vacation, I bought a couple of Vietnamese orchid bulbs for testing. Immediately after returning home, she planted them according to all the rules. I was very afraid that they would not ascend, but everything turned out well. My orchids are already big. True, it is still far from flowering.

Inga, 40 years old

I have been growing Pafiopedilum for a long time. Even a small collection has gathered. These are very beautiful flowers, fragrant. To admire their bloom, you should try and spend a little time.
