Pachyphytum (Pachyphytum) is a compact, refined plant that is a leafy succulent and belongs to the jumbo family. Pachyphytum is native to the stony arid regions of the southern part of the North American continent. Translated from Latin, the name of the plant means “thick leaf.

Pachyphytum is a perennial succulent. It has a shortened stem and obovate fleshy leaves that have a grayish-white or green color under a wax-like bloom and form a rosette. During flowering, the plant produces a long peduncle of a red or white hue.

Pachyphytum care at home

Pachyphytum loves bright scattered rays, but feels good in direct sunlight. In winter, additional lighting is required.

In summer, the optimal temperature regime for pachyphytum should be 20-24 degrees, in winter - 11-14 degrees.

Air humidity

It is not necessary to additionally humidify the air around the plant, because being born in an arid climate, pachyphytum tolerates dryness well.

In summer, the pachyphytum should be watered regularly, but you should not overdo it. In winter, the amount of watering is reduced to a minimum.

The soil

When preparing a substrate for a flower, they use turf soil, sand, peat, humus - each component is taken equally. If you do not want to tinker with the soil yourself, it would be optimal to buy a ready-made mixture for succulents.

Top dressing and fertilizers

Pachyphytum is fertilized only in summer, using mineral compositions for cacti, with a frequency of twice a month.

Pachyphytum should be replanted every two years, preferably in spring. Be sure to put a drainage layer on the bottom of the pot.

Reproduction of pachyphytum

It is necessary to propagate pachyphytum in the spring-summer season. To do this, take leaf cuttings or side shoots, seeds are rarely used.

The plant takes root with great difficulty. It is advisable to dry the cuttings for a week before planting. The fact is that thick, juicy leaves, containing a lot of water, can rot, therefore the cuts require long drying and scarring of the wound. The stalk is buried in the soil only with its tip, strengthening it vertically with a support. They try not to overmoisten the substrate, but also to prevent drying out.

Diseases and pests

Pachyphytum is practically not affected by pests and is resistant to various diseases.

Briefly about succulents

The bulk of succulents are natives of the hottest zones on our planet, they are accustomed to drought and know how to store moisture for future use. Under natural conditions, succulent leaves and thickened stems allow plants to successfully survive, waiting for short rainy seasons. It was this special nuance that brought together representatives of different families into a single group. "Succus", which in Latin means "juice" has become an umbrella term meaning a way of life.

The group of succulents is valuable for professionals for its bizarre textures, an incredible palette of shades and exquisite plasticity, when a living decorative composition is created. Novice flower growers appreciate simple, undemanding care and external color. In addition, succulent roots are able to absorb moisture directly from the airspace, making them even more compact when decorating.

Wintering species

Succulents come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. But if you want to start with something really simple and reliable, then plant Sedums or Sempervivums. These perennials are among the hardiest succulents and can survive even in winter if protected from excessive cold and moisture..

Once you are more experienced with them, you can start growing something more unusual, such as Pachyphytum, Aeonium or Echeveria. But while these plants love to grow outdoors in the summer months, they will need protection in the winter. If you don't have a suitable greenhouse, then during the cold weather, you can bring them into the house and grow them like ordinary indoor plants.

Good day and good mood to everyone!

So, today my review will be devoted to the plant, namely, this wonderful and green succulent plant.

I have been collecting them for a long time in my small collection.

What kind of plant is this - a succulent?

Succulents (from Latin succulentus, "juicy") - plants that have special tissues for water storage. As a rule, they grow in areas with arid coimates.

Plants that are included in the group united by the term "succulents" are not related to each other by a common origin, their similarities are caused by similar habitats.

More recently, I replenished it with a new succulent. Such a handsome man - pachyphytum I also have scarlet, which is included in the same section of succulents, bastard and several other species.

He, pachyphytum, belongs to the fatty family (also a succulent), therefore it is as easy to care for as the fat woman herself. By the way, it is also called the "money" tree, which is also in my collection.

This green "hello" from sunny Mexico requires very little moisture. The plant itself is quite compact and will not take up much space, but nevertheless, after purchase, it is better to transplant the succulent into a new, more spacious pot. Such a succulent can be freely purchased in almost all flower shops (as I did, even with the fat girl, I bought it in the Obi store, the rest were given to me, which I was very happy about).

What you need to know and follow when growing succulents, even the most unpretentious ones:

  • Good lighting is a prerequisite for good succulent growth. This plant is light-loving, but it must be shaded from the scorching rays. I have succulents growing on the windowsill, on the east side. A great place for plants in general, any.
  • Despite the fact that succulents are from warm countries, they do not like too much heat. + 20 + 26 is quite good for them. You can just take them out on the balcony. This applies to summer, while in winter, succulents are in a dormant period and can be placed in a cooler place. +16, but not less than +10, it can freeze if it gets colder.
  • How to water - succulent tolerates drought well, moisture accumulates in its leaves. Therefore, they need to be watered very carefully and not as often as other plants. ALWAYS pay attention to the soil - if it is wet, it is not necessary to water. Overflow is dangerous by decay. Additional moisture (no need for spraying the succulent).
  • The soil for the succulent should be depleted, slightly acidic. Now they sell good soil - soil for succulents and cacti. They can be mixed together. Fine gravel and river sand can also be added. (ratio 3: 1: 1).

In principle, if you follow the rules of care, the plant will delight you with pleasant large green leaves. I am planning to make such a "slide" of succulents. Beautiful living decoration for home and windowsill It pleases the eye and sets you up for positive.

I really want to replenish my collection with other types of succulents I love them
