Variety Prestige - cucumber joy of a summer resident

Crispy juicy cucumbers of our own production are the pride of the summer resident. Every year my neighbors celebrate the "Festival of the First Cucumber". And if this day comes early, then the pleasure is double! Prestige is a cucumber from the early days, but that's not all.

Cucumber cultivation history Prestige

Cucumber Prestige is a hybrid proposed by the CEDEK agricultural company in 2004 for cultivation in open ground in the Central Black Earth and West Siberian Districts. It shows resistance to temperature changes, and its unpretentiousness and productivity turned out to be so attractive for summer residents that soon crunchy greens were grown in greenhouses far beyond the recommended zone.

Cucumbers Prestige recently appeared, but quickly found fans

Description of cucumbers Prestige

These are medium early cucumbers with an indeterminate type of growth. They do not need pollinating insects, as they are parthenocarpic. For this reason, it is convenient to grow them both in greenhouses and outdoors.

Seeds do not develop in the fruits of parthenocarpic cucumbers, which is why their flesh is always tender

The bushes are not very tall, medium-growing. Fruits are cylindrical, regular, dark green with short stripes. The surface is of medium density, lumpy, covered with white pubescence. weight of zelents 64-90 g. Gardeners note that their size does not exceed 10-11 cm, the fruits are not deformed even with a rare harvest.

The first generation hybrids are designated F1, show the best properties of the parent varieties and have a high immunity to diseases.

The taste is excellent, without bitterness. The seeds in the chambers are underdeveloped, small. These fruits are universal in the way of application: they are pleasant fresh and excellent in salting.

Dense bumpy surface and crispy juicy flesh provide excellent quality pickles

Characteristics of Prestige hybrid cucumbers

The fruits ripen together, 45-50 days after planting. The yield of the hybrid reaches 311–402 kg / ha.

Cucumber seeds Prestige need to be bought to get a decent harvest

Summer residents who grow cucumbers have two problems: why the greenhouses haven’t been born and what to do with this breakthrough. I belonged to a lean group, but there is a great dacha brotherhood that does not allow some neighbors to be left without what others have in abundance. Then they began to offer me seedlings, describing in detail the characteristics of the varieties. About cucumbers Prestige heard that they are convenient to grow: the fruits can be picked daily or skipped for several days. So that the bushes do not wither from drought, on both sides of each I dig plastic bottles with a cut-off bottom with their neck down - this way the water warms up better and flows to the roots as needed.

Advantages and disadvantages

Among the benefits of these cucumbers are worth mentioning:

  • Resistant to temperature extremes and minor irrigation flaws.
  • Smooth, beautiful, not deformed greens.
  • Small bones.
  • Excellent taste, devoid of bitterness.
  • Versatility of application.
  • Amicable ripening of the crop and a high yield of marketable products.
  • Transportability.
  • Immunity to fungal diseases.
  • Resistance to stress, special - to temperature extremes and darkening

Disadvantages:

  • Those who like to grow cucumbers from their own seeds from the Prestige hybrid will not be able to get them.
  • Some summer residents are hampered by the abundance of small thorns on the fruits.

Cultivation of cucumbers Prestige

This hybrid is cultivated both outdoors and in greenhouses.

Outdoor cultivation

The best place for cucumbers is a warm bed, where plant residues and manure, re-heating, provide the sprouts with the most favorable conditions for life.

Work begins in the fall:

  1. The upper fertile layer is removed from the selected area.
  2. Dig a trench 50–65 cm deep.
  3. Plant residues, branches, twigs, leaf litter, straw are laid out in layers, placing larger objects at the very bottom of the pit.
  4. Compost, rotted manure, is placed between the branches and foliage.
  5. Each layer is watered with warm water.
  6. Pour their own layer of soil on top and cover with dense material.

By spring, the bed settles, warms up and is ready to receive seeds.

This simple structure will help get rid of unnecessary plant residues on the site and provide comfortable conditions for cucumbers.

Getting seedlings

The seeds are wrapped in a clean cloth and soaked in a solution of a growth stimulant such as Zircon or Epin. The seeds that have hatched are planted one by one in peat glasses with nutritious soil to a depth of 0.5–1 cm, covered with a film.

You can prepare the soil mixture yourself by mixing peat, humus and sand in a 1: 1: 1 ratio, or use store-bought cucumber soil. Before planting, it is advisable to spill the soil mixture with Fitosporin solution.

After the emergence of seedlings, the film is removed. In the phase of 3-4 true leaves, the seedlings are planted in the ground. With an interval of 50 cm, they dig holes larger than peat glasses, pour them with warm water, place glasses with seedlings, carefully filling the remaining voids with soil.

The trellises are immediately fixed so that the growing shoots have support.

Seed planting

With a seedless planting method, the holes are placed at a distance of 20-25 cm, then the weaker shoots are pinched. In warm beds, there is no danger of overcooling the seeds, but if the seeds are planted directly into the ground, you need to wait until the ground warms up.

Growing in greenhouses

The holes are placed according to the 50x90 cm scheme. After planting the seedlings, the shoots are tied to a support. Yellowed leaves are regularly removed, bushes are formed, which facilitates plant care and increases yields. Mulching suppresses the growth of weeds and keeps the soil loose. For this purpose, straw or freshly cut grass is used.

Top dressing

When growing cucumbers in warm beds, there is no need for additional fertilization. When cultivated in greenhouses, they give up to three or four additional dressings:

  1. 1–1.5 weeks after disembarkation.
  2. During flowering.
  3. During the formation of the ovary.

Fertilizers are applied strictly under the bush, trying not to flood the leaves.

Cucumbers need feeding in order to form a good harvest.

Foliar subcortex is also used: ash solution, infusion of straw or herbs (nettle, wheatgrass, dandelion). The substrate is poured by volume in a ratio of 1:10, infused for 1-2 days with stirring, filtered, the resulting solution is again diluted 1:10 and the bushes are treated.

Ash contains salts of potassium, phosphorus, calcium. Herbs contain various vitamins, microelements, and rotten straw contains a hay stick, a natural antagonist of pathogens of fungal diseases.

In the form of foliar dressings, mineral fertilizers can also be given, but the solutions should be diluted with twice the volume of water than when applied at the root.

Spray the leaves in the evening in dry weather to avoid sunburn. The lower surface of the leaf sucks better, so the leaf blade is abundantly watered from below.

Watering

It is worth adhering to simple rules:

  • Water in the morning or evening.
  • It is necessary to ensure that the water is warm and does not fall on the leaves.
  • In cold weather, watering is stopped.
  • Young plants are given water as the soil dries up.
  • With the appearance of ovaries, they are watered more often, once every 2-3 days.
  • During fruiting - after each harvest.

Reviews about gherkins Prestige

Cucumbers Prestige are equally attractive for weekend summer residents and gardeners who live on the site constantly.

The cultivar is parthenocarpic, female or predominantly female flowering type. Preferred for cultivation in the spring-summer turnover under film shelters. The period from the appearance of full shoots to fruiting is 42 - 45 days.

Plants are strongly plaited, medium-branched, indeterminate. Leaves are medium in size, wrinkled, dark green leaf edge is even or slightly wavy. The number of ovaries in one leaf sinus is 1 - 3 pcs. The manufacturer's recommended planting density in closed ground is 2.5 plants / square meter in open ground - 3 - 4 plants / square meter.

Cucumbers are oval-cylindrical, with large sparse tubercles. The mass of greenery is 80 - 110 g, length - 12 - 14 cm, diameter - 3.5 - 4.5 cm. The skin is dark green, with short white stripes. The thorns are white. Pubescence is of medium density. The pulp is dense, without voids, not juicy enough. The yield of marketable fruits is 15 - 17 kg / square meter.

A universal variety - good both fresh and canned.

This hybrid is characterized by increased shade tolerance, adaptability to various growing conditions, as well as long-term massive yield. Possesses high resistance to olive spot, cucumber mosaic virus, powdery mildew and medium - to peronosporosis.

The value of a cucumber Moscow evenings: high yield, early maturity, resistance to diseases, a tendency to bundle formation of ovaries, high taste properties of fruits, undemanding lighting.

Cucumber "Moscow evenings" was bred by the selection and agronomic firm "Manul" in the city of Mytishchi, Moscow region. The hybrid has excellent shade tolerance and early maturity. Early maturing variety. Feminine flowering. Like any hybrid, it has a high degree of parthenocarpicity, that is, the formation of fruits occurs without pollination.

Description. Ovary in the form of a bundle from 1 to 2 knots. Zelenets dark green in the form of a cylinder with a bumpy surface and white thorns. Has a light white pubescence. Leaves are slightly wavy along the edge, dark green. Length 13-15 cm. Diameter about 3-4 cm. Weight about 100 g.

Taste qualities. In the reviews, gardeners have repeatedly noted the excellent taste of the variety. The fruits taste great and are suitable for any salads, pickling and canning.

Growing conditions. Planting is carried out after frost in a greenhouse or greenhouse in April, May. The soil should be loose, with organic fertilizers applied to it. Sowing in open ground is also possible. Sowing depth 2–2, 5 cm, density 3–4 seedlings per sq. M. Watering is carried out in the late evening with warm water.

Productivity. The hybrid is resistant to common garden diseases, therefore, it allows you to get a high yield.

Reviews. Most gardeners speak positively about F1 Podmoskovnye Nights cucumbers. They note high productivity, simultaneous ripening of fruits. It is also worth noting the high sensitivity to low temperatures and the impossibility of harvesting in the autumn-winter period. In isolated cases, they indicate poor resistance to diseases.

Cucumbers are a very common vegetable crop all over the world. Every self-respecting gardener grows them on his site. These vegetables require a lot of attention, so breeders are bringing out more and more new varieties with which there is less trouble. One of these is a hybrid cucumber called F1 Podmoskovnye Nights, which has already proven itself well and received positive reviews from gardeners who grow it. Its merits are evidenced by the description and characteristics of this variety, as well as a photo.

Many gardeners, in pursuit of high yields, practice different methods of growing cucumbers. Hybrid F1 evenings near Moscow is no exception.

For such a “bed”, bags with a volume of at least 100 liters or bags are suitable.

  • The containers are filled with prepared nutrient soil.
  • A high, about 2 m peg is driven into the center.
  • Low hollow tubes made of any material are inserted around it - watering will be carried out through them.
  • 3 plants are planted in each bag.
  • 3 low pegs are driven around the bag, from which the fishing line is pulled and attached to a high stake, hammered in the middle. Cucumbers will climb up this line.
  • As a result, the entire structure is obtained in the form of a hut.

Advice. Sugar bags are great as a container.

This method is especially convenient for small areas - bags or bags do not take up much space.

  • Cucumber seedlings are planted in a circle with a diameter of 2 m.
  • A high stake with hooks at the top is driven into the center.
  • A peg is placed near each plant.
  • One end of the line is attached to the hooks of the center stake, and the other to the peg on the plants. Cucumber whiskers cling to the line and rise.
  • The result is a structure very reminiscent of a hut.
  • Cucumbers are planted in narrow beds in two parallel rows.
  • At the beginning and at the end of each row, high pegs are driven in at an angle.
  • A horizontal rail is installed on top of the peg - one in two rows.
  • A fishing line is stretched from the rails to each plant and fixed.
  • Cucumbers cling to the rail with antennae and rise.

The method of growing cucumbers on a trellis is very popular among gardeners. Thanks to this kind of cultivation, the plants are always well lit, do not thicken and are well ventilated. It is very convenient to remove the fruits and they are all in sight.

Many gardeners who decide to grow cucumbers on their plots prefer the Moscow evenings variety. This hybrid version has received good reviews from those gardeners who have already been involved in its cultivation. In the photo you can see the fruits that this vegetable crop gives: they are even, strong, leveled.

Cucumber F1 evenings near Moscow is a unique hybrid that combines shade tolerance and early maturity. It can give quite high yields even in partial shade under the trees. It is distinguished by its abundant and at the same time long-term fruiting (about 2.5 months). This variety of cucumbers grows both indoors and outdoors. It is resistant to powdery mildew, olive spot, and cucumber mosaic virus.

The seeds of this cucumber are sown for seedlings from mid-April to mid-May. In closed ground, disembarkation is carried out from mid-May, and in open ground - until June 10. The nutritional area required for each plant in the open field is 25x150cm, and in the protected ground - 35x120cm. Collecting zelents - from June 20 to the end of August.

I grew a variety of cucumber "Moscow Nights" and was very pleased with it - I knew that the variety belongs to parthenocarpic (that is, the plant contains mainly flowers of the "female" type of flowering), but I did not even expect that there would be such an excellent harvest! And the weather we had this year was bad - it was hot, then it rains ...

This year, for the first time, we have grown cucumbers of the Moscow Evening variety. I do not have a large vegetable garden, so I chose this variety because of its unpretentiousness to light. I liked that the fruits ripened almost simultaneously and turned out to be tasty, crispy, juicy and without bitterness. Can also be used for salting for the winter.

Last year, on the advice of a neighbor, I planted this variety of cucumbers, so I want to say they are very tasty when fresh, moreover, they are ideal for pickling for the winter. Now I decided for myself, I will plant this variety and I advise you.

Cucumber is one of the most ancient and popular vegetable crops. This is one of the few vegetables that is eaten unripe - the greener and smaller its fruits, the tastier they are.

The greener and smaller the cucumbers, the tastier they are.

People began to actively cultivate cucumbers back in ancient times, about six thousand years ago, as evidenced by the finds near the ruins of the Khazar city of Sarkep, where they found dried seeds of cucumbers. The Greeks called this vegetable "aguros", which means "unripe and unripe", which is where the name comes from - cucumber. They were brought to Europe from India, where their progenitor grows - a wild cucumber, a tropical vine with long branches-whips, growing in the forests.

Zhukovsky early - potatoes which can be taken care of only on weekends, and more often I do not have the opportunity to visit my dacha. I want to note that the characteristic of the variety from the originator is incomplete, it does not say anything about the taste, which, in my opinion, is good only for not fully ripe tubers. For 4 years of cultivation, there was no phytophthora, but I carry out preventive treatments with serum immediately after germination, at the beginning of flowering and immediately after it. Potatoes are stored well, but definitely not longer than six months.

In February last year, I found a description of Zhukovsky early, immediately bought seed tubers, planted it in the spring, without preparing the beds in autumn. I thought the positive qualities of the variety are greatly exaggerated, but no, the yield is high, the tubers are quite tasty, they do not boil over, they do not become dry. It so happened that tomatoes grew next to the potatoes, they were sick with Alternaria, the weather last year was not pleasing - either the sun was burning, then the rains were pouring in, Zhukovsky was all for nothing. I planted a variety this year, I will look at the result and most likely will continue to grow it.

Gardeners reviews

And I have slender, slender ones, the variety is called Universal 6, apparently this year, eggplants do not get fat especially. But even the thin ones are quite happy with me, they bear fruit steadily, there have already been four gatherings and the young ones are still hanging. For me, this is the first experience with eggplants, and I did not even expect that everything would work out, although it did not start very well, aphids attacked the seedlings, did not pay much attention to them, only watered, sprayed along with everything that was left, but even so I am happy by them. Next year I will try the same Universal 6, there are still seeds left and I will choose to eat some more ...

Yes, such different shoots and growth of seeds sown on the same day, on February 20, and shoots in the same conditions. F1 Roma (Dutch) - fast shoots and good growth, F1 Baron (Gavrish) - also surprised with shoots in a week, Universal 6 (Gavrish) - strong fast shoots. But the King of the Market (RO) and Almaz (Gavrish) have practically not ascended so far, having issued 3-4 sprouts each.

I live in the suburbs. As is commonly believed: a zone of risky farming. Especially with regard to southern plants. However, last year the “non-Moscow” eggplant variety “Universal-6” showed itself quite well (in contrast to the zoned ones). I even managed to give a good harvest even in the open field with almost no care (I planted it at random).

I really like the taste of this variety - real and without bitterness. Prepare caviar from it, sauté, cover in tomato. Fruit size is medium, dark color. There are not many of them on the bush. Compared to hybrids, it is less productive, but more aromatic.

The main difficulty in caring for the Universal 6 in hot and dry summers is regular and abundant watering. When grown in risky farming areas, even in greenhouses, this eggplant may not live up to your expectations. To build up a good harvest after transplanting, the bushes need about 100 sunny and warm days with temperatures above +20 ⁰C.
