Spring is the time to put things in order on the balcony or loggia and prepare for sowing annual flowers or vegetables. You need to think about what you can plant from perennials.
You should already have seeds, soil, fertilizers, pots, boxes, pots in store. For climbing plants, you can make trellises, arches, pylons, you can attach corners to the wall and make shelves, install fluorescent lamps. Boxes that will be suspended outside the balcony should be securely fastened. It is best to choose the color of the boxes green, olive, yellow-green, blue.
Properly and tastefully selected, well-groomed plants will decorate the appearance of buildings and give you great pleasure.
How can you decorate the loggia and balcony? Any plants: indoor and garden flowers, various vegetables, fruit and ornamental trees and shrubs planted in buckets, boxes and pots. You just need to take into account at what time the balcony is illuminated by the sun, its size, whether it is glazed or not, the height of the plants (undersized plants must be planted in the upper containers, and, for example, an apple tree, grapes, etc. will fit on the floor).
Just do not forget that the containers in which the plants grow will quickly evaporate water and take nutrients from the soil, so they will need to be watered and fed frequently. Do not forget that different plants can tolerate different air temperatures, so they should be on the balcony in the month when the temperature is not critical for them. Plants that need humid air need to place trays of water and spray them with a spray bottle.
Indoor plants for a north-facing balcony: hybrids of Scherzer's acturium, hybrids of royal begonia, cordilina, cyperus, rubber ficus, world-like, tiny, ivy, monstera, peperomia, philodendron, pepper, syngonium, fatsia, cyclamen, tradescantia, araucaria, saintpaulia and others.
For balconies on the north-east and north-west sides I can recommend the following plants from garden flowers: ageratum, snapdragon, ever-flowering begonia, balsam, verbena, carnation, calendula, coreopsis, levkoy, lobelia, mignonette, mirabilis, nasturtium, petunia, pelargonium, tagetis, tobacco, zinnia; biennials - violet, middle bell, daisy, foxglove, forget-me-not; perennials - astilba, arabis, badan, periwinkle, iris, daylily, primrose, phlox and others.
Indoor plants for the south balcony: abutilone, echmea, beloperona, sansevieria, bastard bright red, bougainvillea, echeveria, bellflower, hybrid epiphyllum, passionflower, clivia, hemantus, myrtle, hibiscus, hoya, Kalanchoe, cacti and other succulents.
From garden flowers to the south, southeast and southwest sides the following decorative flowers can be recommended: for early spring flowering - bulbous, which, having been planted in containers since autumn, have been cooled (3-4 months); for early summer flowering - Iberis bitter, alissum, escholzia, annual phlox, lobelia, nasturtium, verbena, petunia, snapdragon, brilliant gatsaniya, demorphoteka, cornflowers, ageratum, salvia, calendula.
While there is time to think, you can select a plant by height, color, shape and estimate how many plants can be planted on the balcony. It is not at all necessary to have a large assortment of plants - "Small spool, but expensive!" So get to work! Let our balconies turn into miniature Hanging Gardens! There is a choice of plants
When decorating balconies and loggias with flowers, special attention should be paid to flower boxes and soil. I plant flowers on the balcony in wooden boxes 1 meter long, 25 cm wide and 25 cm high, at the bottom there must be holes for drainage. I prepare the soil from a mixture of light loam, sand and peat with a fine lumpy structure. I add 0.5 liters of ash to each box. Since autumn, I put potato peelings on the bottom with a layer of about 5 cm.
For ampel gardening, I hang plastic pots, and for vertical gardening - old tubs and large buckets, I put them right on the balcony floor. You can stick an old dry tree into the tub, a plant will curl over it, and I stick willow twigs into the boxes. It is beautiful, and the flowers do not break from the wind. Annual flowers can be sown directly into boxes: alyssum, calendula, cornflowers, asters, nasturtium, crystal chamomile. Seedlings - pansies, marigolds, geraniums, annual dahlias, lobelia.
On the sunny side, it is better to plant: begonia, verbena, carnations, snapdragons, matiola, daisies, nemesia, petunia, salvia, annual phlox, morning glory, balsam, fragrant tobacco, fuchsia, sweet peas, ornamental beans and frenzied greening as well as nasturtium.
On the north side - marigolds, begonia tubers, nasturtium, forget-me-nots, primrose, tobacco.
You can take out indoor flowers on the balconies in the loggia. For them, choose a semi-shady place, protected from the wind. You can endure: aloe, cacti, monstera, tradescantia, ficus, oleander, ivy, palm, clivia, azalea, dracaena, aucuba.

In all cultures at all times, people paid special attention to the design and decoration of the perimeters of doors and windows. This phenomenon is not accidental, just as in traditional national dress, the ornament is usually placed on the neck, along the bottom, along the edges of the sleeves - at all entry points. Platbands of windows, the design of the entrance area, as well as ornaments on clothes have a sacred, protective meaning - they protect against hostile entry, violating the usual way of life. One of the most famous historical systems for viewing the habitat of a dwelling is Feng Shui. Slavic
tradition, this experience is no less rich, although less studied. Later I will post materials on this topic.
Top dressing of balcony plants
Whatever nutrient soil is used, the volume in the container is very limited and quickly depleted. This is especially true of highly soluble forms of fertilizers, nutrients from which are not only quickly consumed by plants, but also washed out through the drainage holes during watering. Therefore, plants grown on balconies and loggias need regular feeding.
They should be started 1-1.5 weeks after planting and carried out once every 7-10 days with complex instant mineral fertilizers. Mineral dressings should be alternated with organomineral fertilizers produced in liquid form ("Ideal", humic fertilizers, liquid organic). The dosage is usually indicated on the package and must be adhered to. Exceeding the indicated doses can lead to negative consequences, up to the death of plants. If a solution with fertilizers, especially nitrogen fertilizers, gets on the leaves, then in order to avoid burns, it must be washed off with clean water.
On a note
Often, for containers and baskets, long-acting fertilizers in the form of sticks are used, which are placed in the soil. The period of validity of such fertilizers is about two to three months.
Foliar dressings are very effective for plants in containers and, especially, in hanging baskets, in which plant leaves are periodically (2-3 times a week) sprayed with a weak solution of complex fertilizers with microelements (half or even a third of the usual rate is taken). This solution does not need to be washed off the leaves.

Flowers on the balcony. Landscaping balconies
What is a balcony or loggia for a modern city dweller? The question, frankly, is ambiguous. For some, a balcony or loggia is a small island of fresh air in a stuffy apartment, for others, on the contrary, an additional source of dust and car exhaust. But, be that as it may, it has already become a good tradition to landscaping balconies. If you have not yet managed to plant flowers on the balcony and are just joining the ranks of amateur flower growers, then this article is for you!
I honestly admit that the cultivation and cultivation of flowers in my case from the category of a hobby has long since grown into a passion. I feel pride and tenderness at the sight of roses blooming on the windowsill and am ready to cry because of the balsam eaten by the cat. True, for some time my hobbies were limited to the space of a small kopeck piece, in the common people called "vest". For the summer, I put my pets on the loggia and admired the fruits of my care with a clear conscience. But we have a large loggia, and there was enough space, so I decided to plant annual garden plants with my ficuses, ferns and many other green brothers. For the brightness of the landscape, so to speak.
The first step was the problem of organizing space. It was necessary to carefully consider how to place the flowers on the balcony in the best way. There are enough options: well-known balcony containers, bookcases and racks, pots and, finally, any horizontal surfaces.
If everything is clear with whatnots and any horizontal surfaces, then special attention should be paid to fastening containers and pots, otherwise all your flowers on the balcony risk ending up on the floor.
Regulatory documentation for glazing balconies and loggias
Autumn came into its own with might and main. Winter and cold are just around the corner! Caring people have long thought about the insulation of balconies and loggias. The design of the balcony and loggia must be carefully thought out, since it must be in harmony with the rooms and not spoil the facade of the building from the outside.
Before calling the masters, let's get acquainted with the rules for glazing loggias and balconies and with all the regulatory and ensuing consequences.
Landscaping of balconies and loggias
The living conditions of plants on balconies, windows, loggias, verandas and terraces differ significantly from those in the garden or in the room. and are often extreme and not very suitable for the growth and flowering of a number of plants. It is very difficult to draw up any specific watering scheme for balcony plants, therefore it is recommended to water when the soil dries up from above. Excess moisture is no less harmful to plants than lack of moisture.
Balcony boxes, tubs, pots are usually small, so the substrate is so important for the plants grown in them. To plant balcony plants, first of all, you need to properly prepare the ground mixture.
Recently, artificial soil mixtures are increasingly used to grow balcony plants, the main component of which is peat crumb, enriched with nutrients.
The conditions for growing balcony plants impose special requirements on the planting material (seedlings, seedlings, bulbs, etc.). When landscaping balconies, it is necessary to use plants that are decorative, resistant to adverse factors and unpretentious in growing, contribute to the improvement of the environment and organically fit into the architecture of the building and its ground landscaping.
