How to make a concrete mixer: analysis of 2 options for self-production

Any construction work on the site, whether it is the erection of the base of the building, the pouring of the screed or the arrangement of the blind area, is not complete without the use of concrete solutions. Wanting to save money on construction, many craftsmen knead it by hand. If for the manufacture of several liters of solution it is possible to do with manual physical labor and an ordinary shovel, then to obtain much larger volumes it is better to use a special mechanism - a concrete mixer. The mechanism of operation of such a device is quite simple. Thanks to the step-by-step instructions described in the article, anyone can understand how to make a concrete mixer with their own hands and make the device they need on the farm in just one day.

Option # 1 - manual concrete mixer from a barrel

The simplest version of a concrete mixer is a device driven by manual force.

The manual unit during operation provides for the use of great muscle strength. However, if the container is not completely filled, a woman can also set the concrete mixer in motion.

Thinking over how to make a concrete mixer for home use, many owners are trying to choose an option that does not involve large financial costs. The best option is to manufacture the device from a metal barrel and a frame welded from corners and rods.

A barrel with a lid with a capacity of 100 liters and above is excellent as a container. Holes are drilled from the ends of the cover to accommodate the shaft, and flanges with bearings are mounted to the bottom of the cover. After that, a hatch is cut out on the side of the cylinder - a rectangular opening of 30x30 cm. The hatch should preferably be placed closer to the end, which during operation will be located on the lower side.

For a snug fit of the hatch cover during operation of the device, soft rubber must be glued along the edges of the hatch. You can fix the cut piece on the barrel using hinges on nuts and bolts or any lock using hinges.

The shaft must be placed at an angle of 30 degrees, and the structure must be fixed on a frame made of 50x50 mm corners. The finished structure must be dug into the ground or firmly fixed to the surface. The shaft can be made from two steel rods d = 50 mm.

The structure is ready to work. It remains only to pour all the components into the tank, close it with a lid and use the handle to perform 10-15 turns

To unload the ready-made solution from the container, it is necessary to substitute any container under the barrel and discard the mixed solution through the open hatch of the barrel turned upside down.

Option # 2 - making an electric concrete mixer

Electric concrete mixers are more advanced models, they are driven by a motor.

Preparation of basic elements

To make a concrete mixer you need to prepare:

  • Metal tank;
  • Electric motor;
  • Drive shaft;
  • Metal corners or rods d = 50 mm for blades;
  • Two bearings;
  • Elements for the frame.

Using a barrel with a capacity of 200 liters for one load, it will be possible to receive up to 7-10 buckets of ready-made solution, sufficient for one cycle of construction work.

For the manufacture of a concrete mixer, you can use ready-made barrels, or weld a container of 1.5 mm sheet steel. However, for this you need to have certain turning skills.

To increase the mixing properties of the unit, the tank can be equipped with helical blades. You can weld them from their corners or rods, placing them at an angle of 30 degrees and giving them the shape of the inner contours of the tub.

For such a concrete mixer, you can use an engine from any equipment (for example: a washing machine). But when choosing a drive motor, it is better to opt for one that is capable of providing a rotation speed of 1500 rpm, and the shaft rotation speed would not exceed 48 rpm. Thanks to these characteristics, it is possible to obtain a high-quality concrete mixture without dry inclusions. To operate the main power module, you will also need an additional gearbox and belt pulleys.

Assembling the structure

Holes are drilled on both sides of the container to connect the shaft to the drum. The tank hatch is arranged according to the same principle as when assembling a manual concrete mixer. A toothed ring is welded to the bottom of the container, which acts as a part of the gearbox. A gear with a smaller diameter is also attached there.

To turn an ordinary tank into an electric concrete mixer, it is necessary to insert a bearing with a large diameter into a piece of pipe, which will subsequently be welded to the tank, and then connect the shaft to the motor.

Supporting structure - the frame can be made of wooden beams or boards, metal channels, pipes or corners 45x45 mm

To make the support structure mobile, you can additionally equip it with wheels, which are attached to the turned ends of the axle made of reinforcement d = 43 mm.

To facilitate work with the device, it is advisable to equip the concrete mixer with a rotary device. Assembling it is easy enough. To do this, by welding, it is necessary to connect two metal pipes d = 60 mm with two stops and bearing housings. To the device fixed in the frame bearings, it remains only to weld the plugs and tipping handles.

To fix the rotary device in the working position, you need to drill a vertical hole in the front ring and in the pipe wall adjacent to it, into which a wire pin with a diameter of 8 mm will be inserted.

Video examples from homemade masters

Finally, I would like to show a couple of video examples. Here is a manufacturing option using a washing machine motor:

We make a manual concrete mixer from a barrel with our own hands, quickly and inexpensively

Even an inexperienced builder understands that the durability of any structure depends on the quality of the materials used. It makes no sense to explain where and when concrete mortar is used, because you can answer briefly - almost everywhere and always.

The easiest way, of course, is to buy a ready-made solution in the required amount. But there are difficulties here. First, can the machine drive directly to the foundation formwork? If so, then (secondly) how to spread the entire volume over it? This takes time, and the downtime of the car through the fault of the Customer will have to be paid at least 1,100 rubles / hour. There is only one way out - to prepare the solution yourself.

But we mentioned quality. It is quite problematic to achieve it by mixing in a trough, and even if materials with large fractions were used as a filler. In addition, you need to take into account whether you can cook a lot of it at a time?

For the private sector, the best option is a concrete mixer installed directly on the site. It makes no sense to buy it for a short time, for one-time use. The cheapest model, 65 liters, costs about 6,300 rubles, a 130 liter unit - from 8,500 (read more about how to choose it here). But then what to do with it, a concrete mixer? The buyer still has to look.

Renting is also not cheap. Per day - from about 400 to 550 rubles. And if the owner is not on vacation, but builds, for example, in the evenings and on weekends?

There are too many questions popping up and the answer is pretty simple. Make such a "technique" yourself, from scrap materials. So let's look at how to assemble a concrete mixer with our own hands using the example of the simplest design. A 200 liter metal drum can be used as a drum.

You need to understand that the container should be cleaned as much as possible. If there are irregularities on its inner surface (pieces of dried paint or something like that), then this will not be possible. Then it will not be possible to select the entire solution, part of it will remain inside and harden. Such a concrete mixer will not last long, since frozen concrete will gradually accumulate in it.

Stages of work

  1. We carry out the markup... Define the center on both sides of the barrel and drill holes. If your mixer is tilted, the center points should be offset. On one side, you need to make more holes to connect the shaft to the drum. On the back or side, we make markings under the lid so that a bucket will pass into it. We cut a hole with a grinder, make a pair of door hinges with a handle into the cut sheet of metal. We fix the door.
  2. We make two legs from beams and metal corners resembling the letter "A" in shape. We reinforce them among ourselves with reinforcement, the length of which is greater than the length of the barrel.
  3. Final stageconverting an ordinary barrel into an electric concrete mixer. Insert a piece of pipe into a bearing with a large inner diameter, which will be attached to the tank. Weld the other end of the tube to the barrel. We insert the shaft passing through the suspension into the bearing with a small diameter in the inner hole. We connect the shaft to the engine.
  4. Additionally can be welded to the shaft of the blade so that no cement remains on the sides of the barrel.

Gas cylinder or bucket design

Since you can make a grass chopper with your own hands from any material, you will need a gas cylinder for manufacturing. If it is not available, then a simple bucket is used. The self-made device does not have an engine and works on the principle of a meat grinder. Grass Chopper Manufacturing Process:

To push the raw material through the recesses in the cylinder, a wooden pusher is prepared. With this detail, the device will become even more efficient. The device can be used as a hay chopper.

Prices and quality

In general, these are all the main points that will help you choose a concrete mixer exactly for your requests and needs. There is still a question of price. As with any product, there are three categories:

  1. Cheap Chinese concrete mixers. If you pay attention to all the details described above (especially the thickness of the shaft and gear play, as well as the thickness of the metal of the container), it is quite possible that you will be lucky and it will work without breakdowns. As a last resort, it will be necessary to grind out worn parts. The main thing is that it should be repaired. The best option is if you find a model with an exchange for the duration of the warranty period. This also happens. Usually all the "shoals" come out in the first year, so the option is really good.
  2. Medium-priced Russian brands. Usually quite reliable, maybe a little clumsy. Quite a popular group among those who strive to get reliable equipment for reasonable money.
  3. European brands. Everyone is good, except for the price and the fact that the problem with spare parts is not always easy to solve - you have to wait several weeks until the right one is delivered. But I must say they are the most reliable.

How to save money?

If you only need a concrete mixer for a while, then it is better to rent it. This will be quite a profitable solution, since you can choose exactly the kind of concrete mixer that you need, and then even exchange it if something does not suit you.

Renting a concrete mixer will cost you about 400 - 1000 rubles per day, the price depends on the type and volume of the concrete mixer. It is better to immediately choose what you need so that later you do not have to overpay.

Renting can be justified if you only mix concrete from time to time, because the purchased concrete mixer must be stored somewhere and looked after in a certain way. When renting, you will be deprived of these worries.

Thanks to the lease, several problems can be solved at once - the equipment will not be idle for the owners, and the tenants will not need to take care of the equipment and spend extra money. If the master constantly works at different objects with different volumes, he will be able to rent different concrete mixers that suit his requirements.

I hope the question of how to choose a concrete mixer is fully disclosed.
