Hello, dear friends - summer residents and gardeners!
Sowing time for seedlings of flowers and garden crops is approaching, and you, of course, want the seedlings to grow strong and healthy. Fertilizers help to achieve good results. I have already told you about the use of ammonia, succinic acid and hydrogen peroxide for dressing, which I use in caring for my plants.
Today I want to continue the topic of affordable and effective means that are found in almost every home and that can be used to prepare high-quality dressings. I mean medicinal herbs.
The benefits of medicinal herbs
You can even use expired medicinal herbs that you were going to throw away to fertilize plants. After all, what, due to the limitation period, is no longer suitable for people, may well benefit seedlings and indoor flowers. For example, nettle is a very useful plant that develops plant resistance to diseases and pests. When I gave a recipe for a cut grass fertilizer in one of my articles, I mentioned that it is very useful to add nettles to it.
For German gardeners, nettle infusion is a very popular liquid garden fertilizer: it heals plants, stimulates their growth and the formation of chlorophyll in cells. If you water and spray vegetables with nettle infusion, you can improve the taste of fruits and roots.
Nettle infusion enriches plants with vitamins, nitrogen, potassium and other macro- and microelements. It can be made from both fresh and dry nettle leaves and stalks, and this fertilizer will be useful for seedlings and adult plants. And in summer, nettle can be used as a green manure: fresh stems and leaves embedded in the ground will decompose and stimulate the formation of humus in the upper soil layer.
Another medicinal herb that is useful for both humans and plants is chamomile. The flowers and leaves of chamomile also contain many vitamins, minerals, macro- and microelements. Pharmacy chamomile is a natural antiseptic capable of destroying pathogenic bacteria and fungi: the beneficial substances that are part of chamomile inhibit pathogenic microflora.
Knowing about these properties of chamomile, it is highly advisable to use it for feeding seedlings and indoor plants.
I found hop cones in my medicine cabinet, which contain vitamin C and B vitamins, which have a positive effect on the growth, development and metabolic processes in the root system of plants. Vitamin C is often included in liquid plant minerals. It is an antioxidant that increases resistance to adverse conditions.
Hop cones also contain macro- and microelements: calcium, magnesium and potassium. This medicinal raw material has the strongest antimicrobial effect, so the hop infusion will not only supply plants with nutrients, but will help them fight pathogenic microorganisms in the soil.
It is impossible not to tell about one more medicinal plant. These are the well-known marigolds, or calendula. It contains potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, molybdenum, phosphorus, zinc, cobalt and other useful substances. The beneficial effects of calendula on plants and on the soil have been known for a long time.
Calendula is recommended to be sown next to cabbage, strawberries, tomatoes and celery, which often suffer from nematodes - microscopic worms that parasitize plants. Nematodes infect both vegetables and indoor plants, and no cure has yet been invented against them. Calendula repels from plants not only nematodes, but also other pests. It has an antimicrobial effect, disinfects the soil and prevents the spread of fungal diseases. That is why I recommend using the beneficial properties of marigolds to protect seedlings and indoor plants.
Infusion of medicinal herbs
How to prepare an infusion of medicinal herbs at home? Here are two recipes for plant nutrition.
The first recipe. Mix in equal parts all the medicinal herbs found in the house, for example, half a teaspoon each, and then pour 1 liter of boiling water over one incomplete tablespoon of this mixture and leave for 3-5 days. Fermentation is not necessary, as we do in the summer when preparing herbal dressing. Before use, the infusion must be filtered, and when the time comes to water the seedlings, first pour 1 tablespoon of the infusion into each half-liter glass of seedlings, and then immediately pour the soil with settled water. Such feeding can be done once every 2-3 weeks.
The second recipe. You can prepare an infusion of only one medicinal herb and use it as described in the first recipe. For the preparation of subsequent dressings, it is advisable to use another medicinal herb.
I wish you success, good mood and a successful sowing season.

Sections: Fertilizers Growing seedlings
For the first time I heard about feeding seedlings with yeast at work. After planting my seedlings of black bell pepper, I decided to try this method too. It seemed to me not very appropriate to write about him on the day of processing, because the result could not justify itself. And, as it turned out now, it was completely in vain.
Such feeding caused disapproval from some acquaintances, on the other hand, if people drink yeast to strengthen nails and hair, why are such dietary supplements not useful for plants?
Why yeast is good for plants
Yeast is very useful for cultivated plants:
- it is a good growth stimulant and a source of beneficial bacteria
- yeast feeding activates root formation: the results of experiments showed that the substances secreted by yeast cells into the water accelerate the appearance of roots by 10-12 days, increase their number by 2-10 times! And where there is an active growth of roots, there the greens develop powerful and healthy
- plants fed with yeast solution become stronger and more resilient
- seedlings fertilized with yeast in early spring are less stretched out and better tolerate picking
- a very good watering effect was noted when rooting strawberry rosettes.
Yeast dressings are useful for all vegetable crops, strawberries, flowers. The use of a yeast solution has also proven itself excellently as a foliar feeding.
This is what it means to grow by leaps and bounds
Moon phases and zodiac signs
The sowing calendar for each type of work indicates the most favorable and unfavorable days. They are determined based on the phase of the moon and the sign of the zodiac in which the star is at a given time period. The day of the lunar month is also taken into account.Moon phases for march 2021
The period of the waning moon is considered favorable for:
- sowing and planting legumes, root crops, bulbs and potatoes
- thinning, weeding and pest control
- shortening pruning
- cut flowers
- digging bulbs and tubers for storage
- moderate watering
- carrying out root dressing with organic fertilizers.
At this time, active growth of the root system and underground parts of the plant occurs, they are more vulnerable and their damage can adversely affect further development.
When the moon is growing, it is recommended:
- sowing, planting and transplanting fruit, melons, green and leaf crops, berry bushes and fruit trees
- soil cultivation, abundant watering, mineral fertilizing, rooting of cuttings, light pruning
- vaccinations (with the exception of budding).
At this time, the aerial parts of the plant develop intensively.Moon phases for April - June 2021
On a full moon, it is most acceptable:
- thinning, weeding and pest control
- loosening, hilling and mulching
- collection of seeds.
Pruning, pinching, pinching, grafting of plants should not be carried out.
The new moon is considered an unfavorable period. for gardeners and gardeners. It is better not to touch the plants at this moment. Sowing, planting and grafting are strongly discouraged. Watering and light loosening after it is allowed.
On the day before the moon update and on the next day, it is permissible:
- destroy weeds and carry out pest control
- cut off diseased and dried shoots
- remove wild growth
- pinch vegetables.
If we talk about the zodiacal signs, then it is believed that each of them has a certain effect on the yield of trees, shrubs and plants. While the moon is in a fertile sign, you can plant almost all garden crops
TO fertile signs include: Taurus, Cancer, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces.
Signs average fertility are considered: Aries, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius.

When growing seedlings of vegetables and flowers, not only seeds are prepared. You need to process containers and soil. It's no secret that the soil contains disease spores and harmful bacteria, as well as insect larvae. Hydrogen peroxide is also used to disinfect the soil and containers for seedlings, regardless of whether the soil was bought in a store or compiled independently.
One bottle of a pharmaceutical product is dissolved in 4 liters of water. It is necessary to water the soil a few days before sowing seeds or planting seedlings in order to make up for the lack of oxygen. It is advisable to treat the beds with peroxide after harvesting.
Despite the fact that it is almost impossible to overdose on yeast-based fertilizers, adherence to the recipe will maximize the effect. The following recipes will show you how to make the most effective yeast pepper feed.
The most common pepper fertilizer recipe includes the following ingredients:
- Yeast - 200 gr
- Water - 5 liters.
The yeast is kneaded with the addition of a tablespoon of sugar to speed up the process of fungal growth. The resulting homogeneous mass is mixed with water, left to infuse for 2 hours in a warm place. After that, dilute 1 part of the solution in 10 parts of water.
